Chironomids and their possible contribution in distribution of trichinellosis in water biocoenoses

It was determined that chironomids are able to ingest larvae of Trichinella spp. and it takes 137 hours for its to pass through the intestines. The maximum number of Trichinella spp. larvae in the foregut of the maggots was observed 17 hours after ingestion. The maximum number in the mid-gut was observed 29 hours after ingestion. In 40,6 % of the bloodworms Trichinella spp. larvae re- mained viable and infective after they passed the intestines.
