Epidemiological and epizootological characteristics of Trichinella spp. and Taeniarhynchus saginatus infections in Georgia

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL AND EPIZOOTOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TRICHINELLA SPP. AND TAENIARHYNCHUS SAGINATUS INFECTIONS IN GEORGIA

Summary

In 2004-2008 Trichinella spp. infection was recorded in 510 humans as while T. saginatus infection in 230 humans. The prevalence rates was 2,4 and 1,1 respectively. The population of the East Georgia had been mostly infected by those parasites wherein Trichinella infection was found in 285 humans as while T. saginatus in 208 (the prevalence rate values 3,4 and 1,7 respectively). For the same period 0,7% of beef carcasses (from two supermarkets of the Tbilisi city) were infected by Cysticercus bovis and in 0,5 and 0,05% of pork carcasses Trichinella and Cysticercus cellulosae were found.
