NEMATODES OF SUBFAMILY OSTERTAGIINAE IN ELKS AT THE NORTH-WEST OF THE MOSCOW REGION

Summary

At the examination of abomasums from two elks (female and male) originated from the North-West of the Moscow Region one found 3 nematode species: Ostertagia antipini (including minor morf O. lyrataeformis), Mazamastrongylus (=Spiculopteragia) dagestanica and Spiculopteragia asymmetrica. The low number of recovered species could be explained by reduction of elk contacts with other ruminants as a result of considerable lowering of domestic animal population and regulation of wild hooped animal number in that region.
