Philomecidum

Philomecidum

Philomecidum  – is an anthelmintic drug (active ingredient Levamisole hydrochloride) intended for the treatment of a philometroidosis in cyprinid fishes.

The drug is a shredded grained powder of gray-yellow or brown color, not soluble in water.

Philomecidum should be stored in the closed original packaging , in a dry place protected from light, at a temperature from 0 to  +30 ° C. The expiration date of the veterinary drug is 1 year from the date of production when stored as prescribed storage conditions.

The drug possesses the expressed nematocidic effect on larva and imago stages of helminths parasitizing in cyprinid fishes.

Regarding its impact on an organism, Philomecidum belongs to low-dangerous substances (the 3rd class of danger in accordance with GOST 12.1.007-76); when applied in the recommended doses has no   irritation, embryotoxic, mutagenic, teratogenic and sensitizing effects.

Dosage and administration
. Philomecidum is used with a forage mixture at a dose of 20 kg /1 ton for a dehelmintization of pond cyprinid fishes against philometroidosis.

The forage mixture containing 2% of Philomecidum is prepared directly in the fish farm. For this purpose 98 kg of forage mixture is loaded directly into the mixer of any type, 2 kg of  Philomecidum are added and carefully mixed, then 25% of warm water are added and carefully mixed once again. Before application, the medical forage mixture with Philomecidum should be dried in a dark place, in well-aired room within 4-5 hours.

The medical forage mixture containing 2% of Philomecidum is applied twice to fishes with an interval of 24 hours (the single dose of the forage is 5% of the mass of fish), without the preliminary hungry diet.

Medical feeding is carried out according to the existing technology of feeding fish with granulated forages.

Philomecidum is used in May – the beginning of June, affecting the imaginal development of females of philometroides ,  or in July – August to suppress the activity of larval stages of phylometroides at water temperature not lower than 13 ° C.

Before a mass dehelmintization, each series of Philomecidum  is previously tested on a limited number of carps (in cages or the isolated ponds). If there are no complications within 3 days, all fishes in ponds can be dehelmintized.

The evaluation of the efficiency of treatment is carried out by helminthological dissection of 10- 25 fishes from each pond before giving a medical forage and of 10-25 fishes on the third or fourth day after the last application of the preparation. If necessary, the dehelmintization is repeated 10-20 days after the first treatment.

Catching and use of commodity fish for food purposes is allowed not earlier than 8 days after the last application of the medical forage.

In case of the compelled catching earlier than it's scheduled, the use of fish for food to fur animals is allowed.

Measures of precaution
. All works with Philomecidum must be carried out using special clothing (overalls, headwear, rubber gloves, a respirator).

During the work with Philomecidum it is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat.

Upon the termination of works, the face and hands should be washed carefully with warm soapy water, the mouth should be rinsed .

It is prohibited to use empty containers from Philomecidum for food purposes.

Philomecidum should be kept out of the reach of children.
